REPORTAGE AND DOCUMENTARY DRAWING

In an age of sheer endless possibilities to manipulate photographs, drawing as medium of professional reportage is experiencing a renaissance precisely because it seems more subjective, reminding us that a filtered reality lies at its foundation.

Being a reportage artist means to me:

  • I draw to document what I sense (not only see).
  • I draw on location and from observation.
  • In contrast to a camera lens, I have to be selective as I draw: I leave out information that isn’t relevant to telling the story.

For my clients, this has the effect of steering their viewer’s attention to the essential crux of the story.

Would you like to convey your story in a unique way? I am always interested in new commissions, be it a documentation of events, people, places, processes, research projects, … you name it.

Hire me as visual correspondent

If you’re interested to have me drawing impactful on-location reportage pieces for your newspaper, magazine or documentary project, I’d love to talk with you. For the benefit of larger projects, I’m used to team up with other professionals (e.g. journalists) as well.

Fees vary depending on the nature of the commission. I work in accordance with the guidelines of Illustratoren Organisation e. V.

My working languages are English and German.

You can commission me to create hand-drawn illustrations for your package design, books, websites, posters, postcards, and other publications. Pieces drawn on location and from observation allow for results that strongly link to what is important to you.

Besides being an artist, I’m also a certified trainer. I offer empowering drawing workshops for beginners, as well as urban sketching events, sketch walks and reportage illustration courses for those with more experience.

I work on a flat fee plus expenses for travel and accommodation, or if I work within the Cologne area, just the flat fee. Events can be either a full or half day.
